The journey began in 2011, with this house.

In 2011, we had just moved to Canberra from Sydney and wanted desperately to buy a house, after having rented for a year. We saved up all we could, worked double shifts, spending as little as possible, but all the houses on the market just weren’t what we were looking for. We did some research and found that buying land and building on it can be cheaper and customisable than buying outright. So we decided to embark on a journey to build our own little home.

With no knowledge or guidance, we managed to buy a piece of land and get the relevant approvals. We couldn’t find a suitable Builder so we had took on the construction as Owner Builders. So we got our Owner Builder license and from there, set out to put this house together.

One trade would give us the number for the next and we somehow managed to build a whole house.

When we neared the end, our lease was coming to an end and we couldn’t find landscapers. With our kids being 8 and 6, we knew we needed to get in this house ASAP. All that was left was landscaping. So what did we do?

The kids put on their hats and sun screen, we picked up our shovels and everyone jumped into making this garden. That’s right, the garden in that photo was done by us - our family of 4.

Since then, we have moved back to Sydney but whenever we drive through Canberra, we make sure to go have a look at our first project. Our team has grown but we have kept the same values, heart and passion behind our work.
